Monsters, Inc

20130129-000423.jpgWe had some special guests on Friday. Leo Xavier Black Belt Blake Hayes brought local MMA star Daniel Roberts and former OSU All American Wrestler Jamal Parks over along with Beau Taylor to help Rick Bigger get some training for his upcoming fight. Clinch’s own MMA champ Andrew “the Sniper” Todhunter joined in the mix as well. If you weren’t there you saved yourself a king sized bottle of Excedrin and a trip to the chiropractor. You’re Welcome.

BJJ Gift Ideas

Hey guys. It’s already that time of the year again. Time to slow down and reflect on the year that’s passed, enjoy some time with the family, and of course do a little shopping for your loved ones. Okay let’s be honest, shopping for you. Listed below are several items that are the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu equivalent of an Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle. Don’t shoot your eye out!

1. Magazine Subscriptions: It is awesome how many magazines are covering the art today. Lots of great information and inspiration. Here are two of my favorites:

2. DVDs: A great way to get better at Jiu Jitsu is by watching how the great ones do it. There are lots of good instructional as well as competition videos available. Check out these places for a good start:

3. Books: When I started training BJJ there was really only one book on the market. If you go to amazon today, there are like a thousand! Here are some recommendations:

4. A new gi! If your loved one(or you!) has been on the really good list, you can get them a shiny new gi. Here are a couple of excellent places to pick one up:

5. BJJ/MMA gear. If they’ve been good but not that good, maybe just get them a t-shirt, hoodie, or some grappling shorts but pleeeeaaase nothing from Affliction or Tap Out . Haha, only kidding.

6. Private lessons. The fastest way to improve your Jiu Jitsu is with private lessons. They can be expensive ($100/hour and up) but very worth it. If you live near the Owasso, OK area, call me for details 918-269-1593 or visit us at

Zerak Weems, CHAMPION!

Zerak wins his division at NAGA!

Congratulations to Zerak. He won the gi division by tapping out his opponent in the finals with an Americana. Zerak is one of the most dedicated students we have and I’m sure he will be bringing many more swords home.

Check out his final match!

New Blue

Congratulations to all of you who participated in the AGF tournament last weekend. It takes a lot of guts to step on the mat and compete and I’m proud of everyone of you who accepted the challenge. After it was all said and done, Clinch won 1st place in the kids division both gi and no gi. And 2nd place in the adult division. Below are some pics of the team champs.

20120802-094454.jpgIn Zerak’s first tournament, he had 10 kids in his division!

20120802-094742.jpgElla and Anne-Marie cleaned house. . .again!

20120802-094918.jpgAlso his first tournament Clint had some tough matches to bring home gold and silver.

These are just a few of the champions. Mor pics to come. Congratulations to all you who competed. See you on the mat!

Sniper Attack!

Congratulations to Andrew Todhunter! He won his most recent fight in under 3 minutes with a rear naked choke. As a bonus he got to hang out with UFC Champion Jon Jones. Thanks to all who helped with his training.

Good weekend at NAGA OKC. Too many medals to list here. We closed out a couple of brackets with our guys from Stillwater. Congratulations to all who competed, especially the first time competitors. Winning is great but sometimes you learn more from losing.

Fight Night at the Hard Rock

Great night for Clinch. Logan Cunningham won his fight by knockout after being knocked down FOUR times! Andrew Todhunter had one of his toughest fights yet. He caught an overhand right with his face and was out on his feet before coming back and submitting his opponent with a rear naked choke. I am very proud of both of these guys. It’s my feels great when I see my guys fight through adversity and come out victorious.

Jacare Takedown Highlight

A takedown highlight of one of the best guys in the sport, Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza using the ankle pick to get the fight to the ground. Come join Rick Bigger this Saturday to learn this technique!

The “unchoke-able” Dylan Scott just received a $5000 Jiu-Jitsu scholarship to Arizona State University. Okay, really it was an academic scholarship but just as well. If you see Dylan on the mat, congratulate him. Then, try to choke him.

Happy New Year!!

Greetings. I hope you all enjoyed your holidays. Now it’s time to get back to work! This week we begin our training for the N.A.G.A. tournament in Oklahoma City on February 25th and 26th. Everyone is invited and encouraged to compete! Competition is one of the fastest ways of improving your BJJ. It is also great training for MMA fighting. So take up the challenge and do it.
